In recent years, the popularity of digital motorsports has grown internationally, thanks to the ease of access, regardless of players age or location.
Mazda, in conjunction with “Gran Turismo Sport”, developed a virtual race car dubbed the “MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT”. It can be selected as a race car in the “FIA Gran Turismo Championship” and it has been available for play since 22 May 2020.
Based on the Mazda RX-Vision Concept car that was unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, the GT3 Concept is modified in accordance with FIA GT3 race car regulations and complies with Gran Turismo Sport’s own regulations in its Gr.3 category. Furthermore, to meet the requirement of engine output for its class, and in the pursuit of unprecedented performance, it mounts a 4-rotor “SKYACTIV-R” engine in the lightweight chassis.
Like any mass production vehicle development, the MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT began with design sketch work for each component, followed by 3D digital modeling, and was then completed with a detailed final design. This Gr.3 virtual race car, designed to achieve a high level of competitiveness, was made possible through Polyphony Digital’s state of the art modeling technology.
