To date, it has been estimated that over 28 000 Mazda vehicles have been affected by the Takata airbag defect. This number includes Mazda6 and RX-8 vehicles produced between 2002 and 2014.
Since the first recall, Mazda South Africa has made a concerted effort to reach out to affected customers to take in their vehicle to the nearest Mazda dealership. A call to action for airbag inflator replacement was prioritised using press releases, print media and informative online articles.
With a minimum response rate from vehicle owners, the Japanese automaker is concerned about the majority of customers who haven’t visited a dealership for replacement fittings. The key issue is that over 80% of Mazda owners who haven’t responded could be possibly driving with defective airbags. For the purpose of raising awareness, Mazda is developing a recall awareness campaign which will roll-out on radio and across all digital platforms – in an attempt to reach out to Mazda drivers with affected vehicles.
To find out more, customers can visit any Mazda dealership nearest to them to have their vehicle assessed. Alternatively, you can contact Mazda SA Customer Care Centre on 0860 983 000 or at email@example.com
